MSB Coaching Circle

Your coaching practice is still unfolding

Coaching Circle is a learning and reflective practice community for Story and Accreditation graduates who want to keep practising, learning and bringing coaching into their schools with confidence.

This is where the practice begins

After Story or Accreditation your coaching meets real people and all the complexity of school life.

You begin to notice new questions.

Am I coaching or advising? What is mine to hold? How can we make coaching sustainable here?

These questions are part of the practice and Coaching Circle gives you somewhere to explore them.

‘Kinship mind is a way of improving and preserving memory in relationship with others. If you learn something with or from another person, this knowledge now sits in the relationship between you.’– Tyson Yunkaporta

Why Join?

Because coaching practice needs somewhere to keep growing. This community gives you protected space to practice, reflect with others, deepen your learning and navigate the real questions that arise as you bring coaching into schools, leadership and professional life.

Deepen your practice

Protect time to use and strengthen your skills. Develop coaching responsibly within the realities of school leadership.

Bring difficult questions

Reflect on live situations that matter in reflective dialogue with an MSB Supervisor and circle of peers.

Continue together

Stay connected to MSB and a trusted, committed group of fellow practitioners from diverse contexts.

‘We know we live in complex times that demand complex thoughts and conversations – and those, in turn, demand the very time and space that is nowhere to be found.’ – Jenny Odell

What you’ll find here

Your Coaching Circle includes

8 months

10 sessions

Coaching Circle consists of 10 active sessions with peers and your MSB supervisor, between November 2026 and July 2027.

Five 90-minute Learning Sessions

These 90 minute learning and practice sessions with an MSB facilitator or guest speaker will explore themes and perspectives that we don’t have time to share with you in our curriculum and matter in real coaching practice.

Five 2-hour Reflective Practice Sessions

In these sessions, each of you will have an opportunity to explore an inquiry that is live and matters to you.

Your MSB supervisor and peers will listen and make offers based on your inquiry – to shape your future perspective and response.

Supporting Resources

Alongside the learning space, each session will come with supporting resources. We encourage members to connect and practice together, exploring themes that they find enriching.

Stay Connected and Supported

Stay connected to your peers and MSB supervisor in the Coaching Circle between live sessions as part of our coaching triads and in our online community.

Themes you will explore

Join us for collaborative dialogue as we dive more deeply into themes such as:

Setting up and Sustaining Internal Coaching

You have the capacity for internal coaching, and what are the structures to begin and create a sustainable process where coaching is consensual, power-aware and co-created?

Psychological Contracting

We make agreements as we begin coaching, and what’s really going on?

We explore psychological contracting and what can remain unsaid in our coaching partnerships. How can contracting for what’s going on below the water line enhance our shared awareness?

Seeing The System

All coaching includes the system, made up of multiple, entangled stakeholders. To create an external map of this internal truth can be liberating, bringing greater clarity and movement to the work.

Creative Approaches in Coaching

Drawing, journaling, poetry and embodiment are sites of exploration and discovery. We share ways of making offers to your thinkers in partnership that will open up new resources, connection to self and possibilities.

Ethics and Boundaries

Coaching is becoming a ‘grey space’ where people are sharing more complexity and personal themes.

How do we orient ourselves to this, making everything normal while understanding the boundaries of our competence?

Metaphors as Portals

Metaphors and images are abundant in how we make meaning across languages and geography. We will practise listening for metaphor, exploring together with curiosity, going deeper into the thinker’s knowing.

Reflective Practice

Alongside learning, it’s restorative, developmental and ethical practice to reflect on our coaching work alongside others.

In these sessions, each of you will have an opportunity to explore an inquiry that is live and matters to you. Your msb supervisor and peers will listen and make offers based on your inquiry – to shape your future perspective and response.

Subjects for Reflective Practice might include:

  • My thinker seems resistant to carrying out the actions we agree – I’m not sure how to bring this up.
  • My thinker shared an issue that has left me feeling concerned about her. What is my responsibility here?
  • We have set up an internal programme and several people have opted out after their first sessions.
  • How can I navigate my dual role of Assistant Head and Coach-like Leader?

“Coaching supervision is a collaborative learning practice to continually build the capacity of the coach through reflective dialogue for the benefit of both coaches and clients.”
– ICF
