Deputy Headship: How to excel as a Deputy Head/Vice Principal

Aims of the course

The role of a deputy can often be a tricky one. A fine balance managing the demands of headteacher and middle leaders, as well as a portfolio of responsibilities. This course will develop participants ability to meet those demands, as well as enable them to reflect on how they can excel in their role. It will suit either those new to deputy headship, those who have been in role for a while but are looking to refresh their perspective or those aspiring to deputy headship.

Intended outcomes of the course

  • To explore the importance of the role of the deputy head and the contribution that can be made
  • To audit participants strengths in their role and identify areas for development
  • To consider a range of ‘typical’ deputy head scenarios and develop understanding of what excellence might look like
  • To develop an individual action plan for deputies aspiring to be the best they can be
